How fast can you change a thought? - Ways to Enhance Your Personal Power

Have you ever noticed that most of our states of discomfort, displeasure or unease stem from thoughts of corresponding nature, or thoughts that generate these negative states?

When I commenced my journey of self-improvement, self-development and self-strengthening I discovered meditation, holistic healing and various modalities that are designed and intended to enhance our state of mind and thus quality of life. One of the teachers I came across was Byron Katie who pioneered a line of powerful inquiry aptly entitled The Work. Her work has helped millions of people worldwide overcome life's difficulties, tumultuous thoughts, and inner demons.

The reason I bring this up is because she, along with dozens of other empowering figures, Louise Hay for example, have harnessed the power of Self-Awareness by underscoring the notion that:

A thought is only a thought and it can be changed.

If the source of negative emotions, and thus a negative state of mind, is a corresponding thought, and a thought can be changed, then it makes sense to conclude that if we change thoughts to positive/empowering/uplifting/resourceful thoughts we will consequently experience a boosted state of being.

Thus the question:
How fast can you change a thought?

There are different factors involved in Thought-Creation and Thought-Change.
Thoughts that we think consistently and repeatedly become a personal mantra and take the shape of a Belief. Beliefs are potent as they shape identity, self-confidence and our map of the world.

Thoughts that are strongly held are suffused with emotion, and emotion that is interlinked with a belief and desire for action is a potent catalyst for change and taking action.

However, not all thoughts are consistently held nor do they all become beliefs.
Some thoughts are fleeting and ephemeral, emerging unexpectedly from random life situations.

Some thoughts generate a positive mood or state, while others can potential have the opposite effect. The latter can be conducive to generating unresourceful states such as fear, doubt, anger, frustration, etc.

The thoughts that combine emotion and consistent "airtime" assume MOMENTUM, and we know how that momentum goes - once you get started it takes a life of its own, and soon enough one thought trails behind the other and it grows exponentially.

This is great for the Positive ones, however not so much for the latter set.

So how do we change the set of thoughts we willingly and readily want to release?

There is no simple, easy or one single answer or technique. Everyone is different and experiences thoughts in different ways depending on the various intrinsic personality traits.

I would like to present and share a nifty NLP + Life Coaching Technique that I have applied in Coaching sessions and on myself which has resulted in great, desired results for the Client.

It is through the use of SUBMODALITIES and METAPHOR COACHING.

Perhaps you can consider:
- How do you effectively shift unresourceful thoughts?
- What are your trick, tips and techniques?
- What is the main difference in the momentum between your positive thoughts and nnegative thoughts?
- If you could change one thought you think repeatedly that is not serving you, what would that be?
What would be its Counterpart (the opposite thought)?

Powerful questions generate powerful answers.

SUBMODALITIES and METAPHOR COACHING

In NLP, Submodalities are referred to as representational systems or modalities; the Reps systems is basically the way we individually use the five basic senses: visual, auditory, kinesthetic, olfactory and gustatory. Everyone has a more dominant use of certain reps systems. For instance, some people are more Kinesthetic which means they are more physical and absorb more experience through being involved in physical movement. If you are more visual you will be more impacted by the things you can see (perhaps you've heard the generalization that men are more visual?); some people are more auditory which is evident in musicians and people who are sensitive to changes in tonality and pick up on slight variations in a person's voice. Certainly we are all a combination of these senses however the point is that typically 1 or 2 reps systems will be more dominant.

Thus, if you can actively engage your dominant reps system you can actually generate powerful change in how you experience a situation, memory and, yes, a thought.

Notes on Sunday 29 March 2015 - Dream Last Night on Traveling - My new destination, My new Life

Good morning, beautiful world!

I am noticing beautiful and vivid manifestations of well-being, flow, happiness, connection and alignment.

Every day I have RDV'd with friends, some old and some new; I am receiving compliments from strangers and from my community; there were 2 incredible coincidences:

1) Meeting a new friend/guy who also knows another girl friend of mine - coincidence!
2) Chatting with my other friend it turns out he has to move by June and I also have to move by June. Exactly the same scenario! Amazing. I am open to starting a new journey with a special partner, at the right time in God's will.

It's amazing...talking about those things makes me realize how much I love peace and quiet; the greenery, the water, the sweet, beautiful singing birds. The quiet is really precious.
Heavenly father, please do guide me to a beautiful, calm, graceful, delightful, natural new community; a beautiful, spacious, comfortable new home...One that delights my Inner Being, expansive, easy with nature...Green, quiet, peaceful, tranquil, natural. Lovely...with water nearby. I love the nature, and Nature loves me too :-).

Thank you for these manifestations :).

What dreams may come...

Last night I had a dream:

had an international flight to catch and it was a long-haul (like to/from USA to/from Seychelles (cheeky example)). In my dream, I was not really paying attention to the time, hadn't finished packing and before I knew it it was already 2 hours before the flight and I should've already been at the airport!! Furthermore, I was at home location in Dubai Marina yet I was in the home of my family in New York City (Jamaica, Queens).

My flight was at 20:25 and so I should have been at the airport by 18:25; I was coming from Home in Dubai Marina and had to go all the way to Airport FZ in the afternoon with traffic. Geez! LOL I knew fully well in the dream that things were looking dicey. Mom was with me, downstairs, I was in my room upstairs just sort of taking it easy, and she finally came up to say "Jen, it's already time, we have to make a move!"

Then I realized OK time to go, and I knew I couldn't feasibly finish all my packing in time, so I thought: (a) Either I finish packing and take the next flight (which was undesirable since it's a really long international flight and the next one would be too far into the future); or (b) Just go as I am with what I have, missing a few toiletries, garments, etc. knowing that I could eventually buy everything I needed when I reached my new destination since that is easily possible.

I went for Option B.

I found myself on the bus en route to the airport, took some turns, walked through some off roads, some pit stops; there was a helpful person along the way who wanted to give me a shortcut which I didn't take because I wasn't sure it looked official or proper, and it might lead me astray. In the end it indeed led to the same spot I came out from.

And then I think in the end I made it to the airport because there was a portion of the dream involving business, commerce, lots of people moving in different directions, going to different places. I was queuing with my documents to submit the necessary.

I AM READY FOR THE NEXT STEP & STAGE OF THIS MAGICAL LIFE

Looking back on this, it feels like there is a deeper meaning to it and it is a sign. A sign to BE READY, a sign of CHANGE, new PLACE, NEW TRAVEL, MOVEMENT. A NEW JOURNEY. Or, the Journey continues into a different territory.

The key message is to BE READY.

This is the second such dream I have where I am traveling and yet I am not making a move and just dilly-dallying (in the dream). I had this exact dream before traveling home to NY in December. And the time on the digital clock overhead in the my room was 11AM and my flight was at 1PM.

However, when I flew home in real life I was ready and made it to the airport perfectly well. All good. I love traveling :-) So much fun! :-) Yay, perhaps I can have a new job where I have to travel for it to beautiful destinations and islands. OMG that sounds and feels amazing. Perhaps this is in my vortex and in my path.
I love that.

Then when I flew to Seychelles I was 100% READY - totally ready to be there, go there, enjoy there and love there. To fall in love in spirit and person.

I feel so blessed and it is delightful and divine.

What beautiful visions.
My path unfolds in perfect synchronicity with all that is good, light and happy.
